"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" 2
Corinthians 5:17
At this time it is good to think about starting anew. This is what happens to us when Jesus Christ comes into our lives — He makes us new people spiritually! Jesus said we could be born again — we would start out fresh like new born babies when we ask Jesus into our lives to be our Savior.
You can ask God to give you a clean slate. When you accept Christ as Savior, God forgives us our sins — He casts our sins from us as far as the east is from the west.
Unfortunately we still have our old natures to contend with — we are still tempted to lie, or to cheat, or to steal, or to be immoral. But you can choose to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit — and you can overcome your old sinful nature. You are a new creature in Jesus Christ! "Walk in the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh."
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
2 Timothy 2:15
You can study about God! God is the most wonderful being in the universe. He created the heavens and the earth; He loves us so much He sent His Son Jesus to die for us; He sent His Holy Spirit to live inside us as Christians. He is loving, and just, and kind, and merciful. We have so much to learn about Him!
You can learn about God and how to live a Christian life. There are good books to help you, but the best source is the Bible itself.
I encourage you to take some time each day to learn about God.
This week, can you please pray that:
Six armed gunmen broke into deposit boxes in a London bank and stole valuables worth more than $7 Million. One woman, whose jewelry was appraised at $500,000, wailed, "Every thing I had was in there. My whole life was in that box."
Some people have taken fooliah risks to cling to their riches. They have died rushing into burning houses or were killed because they stubbornly resisted armed robbers. Apparently they felt that without their material possessions life would not be worht-while. Others, when they lose their wealth, slip into depsir, even to the point of suicide.
The greatest dange in becoming too closely identified with our possessions lies in the spiritual area of life. An unhealthy attachment to material things can keep an unsaved person from turning to Christ and prevent a believer from living for Him. They story of the rich young ruler forcefully illustrates this truth. Jesus' words "You cannot seve God and [money]" certainly apply to us all.
Keep a wide gulf between yourself and your possessions. It will spare you many heartaches. If you are not a believer in Christ, don't make the mistake of the rich young ruler. It will cost you your soul.
