Imagine if Christianity was just a giant book of rules -- thousands of things you should do or not do.  Think of how overwhelming this would be!   You would feel as if you had to be perfect to be accepted by God.

The good news is that Christianity is NOT a huge list of rules.  Christianity is the good news that Jesus Christ died for our offenses against God - our sins.  When we try to live the Christian life, we can ask God the Holy Spirit to fill our lives with His love and His power and His grace.

Paul said, almost 2,000 years ago to people in Galatia who were trying to live the Christian life by rules, "Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?"  The same applies to us today.  We can have the joy of living the Christian life filled with God's Holy Spirit.

God's peace. How can you have God's peace in the midst of a storm? When Jesus was with His disciples in a boat, a great storm came over them. Even in the midst of the storm, Jesus slept peacefully.

If you have a crisis in your life -- if you have problems -- if you have issues with your family -- Jesus is with you. He can give you His peace -- peace in your heart -- even in the midst of a storm.

Here are three things you can do to experience God's peace:

1. Make sure you know that Christ is your Savior -- that He is with you "in the boat."
2. Release your problem to Him -- put it in His hands. You can trust that He will answer your prayers!
3. Ask His Holy Spirit to fill you with the presence of Jesus each and every day.

It can be so easy to get caught up in the rigors of modern life that we tend to forget that happiness need not come with stipulations. Happiness becomes something we must schedule and strive for—a hard-won emotion—and then only when we have no worries to occupy our thoughts. In reality, overwhelming joy is not the exclusive province of those with unlimited time and no troubles to speak of.

Many of the happiest people on earth are also those coping with the most serious challenges. It is often when we have the least free time or energy to devote to joy that we need to unwind and enjoy ourselves the most. If you start by pursuing activities you already enjoy and then gradually think up new and different ways to fill your daily five minutes of happiness, you will never be without something to smile about.

We have all done things that we are not proud of. Perhaps we were not there for a friend when they needed us, or we may have been responsible for unhappiness in our family. These sorts of past actions can leave us feeling ashamed and guilty, and we can end up carrying our guilt for years.

Guilt is probably one of the most debilitating and negative emotions there is — one that can, and often does, destroy a person's life. But if we want to live happy lives, we need to deal with the consequences of our past actions and not allow our lives to be wracked with guilt.

Feeling guilty should not be confused with taking responsibility for our past. Taking responsibility means that we actively address the consequences of our actions in whatever way we can, in particular changing our behavior patterns. Taking responsibility also includes moving on by making peace with the past.

Then, we are to Go by 1) Praying; 2) Going to others; 3) Talking about the Lord Jesus; and 4) Expecting God to use you. 

Ephesians 5:17

You can be filled with God's Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is God -- here on earth, but invisible -- who came to live in the lives of those who have accepted Christ as Savior.

You do not have to try to live the Christian life on your own power without help.  The Holy Spirit can give you God's power in your life to overcome sin.  The fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life will be love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.  God can help you live the Christian life by His power -- His Holy Spirit -- in your life!
